The Most Successful Footballers in Europe in 2024

The Top 5 European football leagues have ended a most interesting season. The German Bundesliga was a hot mess, with the winner undecided until almost the last minute, the Premier League was a collection of surprises, and the French Ligue 1 was underwhelming at best. The footballers, in turn, have given 110%, offering fans amazing performances, and punters countless opportunities to win. These were the ones with the highest performance in the last season.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

With 36 goals in 35 matches and 8 assists, Haaland was the most successful player in the Premier League. The Norwegian wunderkind has shown that he was worth every penny of the £51 million Man City paid to have him.

Haaland broke many records in his first year at Etihad. He became the quickest player in the EPL to score two hat-tricks (four days apart), and the second was a perfect hat-trick (one goal scored with each foot, and one with the head, in a single match). He became the fastest player in the EPL to reach 20 goals (in 14 matches). He won the European Golden Shoe, and the EPL Golden Boot, and he is one of the six contenders shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or!

Niclas Füllkrug (Werder Bremen)

The last Bundesliga season was surprising in many ways. One of them is the number of goals that were relatively low – this is why only 16 goals scored were enough for two players to share the distinction. With one extra assist, Niclas Füllkrug got the award – Christopher Nkunku (RB Leipzig) is second on the list.

Both players did great for their clubs – and both of them were sidelined for long periods throughout the season. Lücke was out between matchdays 28 and 32, and Nkunku played even fewer games.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli)

The 24-year-old Nigerian striker’s contribution to Napoli’s Serie A title this season is undeniable. When he is on the turf, all soccer betting sites bend the odds in his team’s favour, no matter if it’s Italy’s champion or the Super Eagles.

Osimhen scored 26 times for his club throughout the season, earning the award for the top goalscorer this year. He has also become the highest-scoring African player in the Serie A, breaking George Weah’s record.

Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona)

The 34-year-old striker truly made an impression in his first season at Camp Nou! Aside from winning the Pichichi Trophy with 23 goals – his sixth top goalscorer award in a row – he also became the first player in history to score hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League for three different clubs.

Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint Germain)

With 29 goals, 3 penalties, and 6 assists in 20 matches, Mbappé was the top goalscorer of the French top-flight league, Ligue 1. He also won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award, and became the club’s all-time top goalscorer, breaking Edinson Cavani’s record.

With only one season left on his contract, Mbappé will certainly not attack Delio Onnis’ record of 299 goals scored in the French top-flight league. Unless, of course, he transfers to another French team.

Last season was crazy for many of the top football leagues in Europe. They only have time a few transfer rumour-filled weeks to relax – football returns to the turf in just a couple of months.
