During his adolescence and when he was in college, Young worked on honing his rapping and rhyme techniques. He was introduced to Mike Ross, one of the owners of Delicious Vinyl, during his junior year at USC. Ross was so impressed by his rapping over the phone for him that he extended an offer to Young for a recording deal. Young started working on his debut album and collaborated with some other musicians during his final two years at USC. On the songs “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina,” both of which went on to become successes, he collaborated with Tone Lc.In 1988, he started issuing his own singles. In 1988, he debuted “I Let ‘Em Know” and “Know How.” He released the songs “Principal’s Office” and “Bust a Move” the next year, in 1989. The latter song was extremely well-liked and propelled Young to fame. The song peaked at number seven on the “Billboard” Hot 100 and was honored with the Best Rap Performance Grammy that year. Additionally, it contributed to the popularity of his debut album, “Stone Cold Rhymin,” which included all of the songs. On the “Billboard” 200, the album peaked at position 9. In the end, it was given platinum certification in the US. Young walked away from Capitol Records as a result of the negative response. The next year, in 1997, he signed with the indie label Overall Records and issued his fourth album, “Return of the 1 Hit Wonder.” Two singles from the album were released: “Madame Butterfly” and “On & Poppin.” The two singles succeeded in charting on the Hot Rap Songs list at places 25 and 23, respectively.

Parents

When Young’s father was accused of killing his mother in a fatal stabbing in 1994, tragedy struck the family. A few hours after the incident, the father was detained because he had been transported to the hospital earlier for treatment of a medication overdose.

Girlfriend

Young moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 2006, leaving his 20-year residence in Los Angeles. Typically, Young doesn’t let the world know about his romantic relationships. Although he hasn’t acknowledged any romances in the past, he was formerly connected to Amy Lynn Baxter in 1990.
