Dockyard Delights: A Day Trip to Bermuda’s West End

Located roughly 1,100 miles northeast of Miami (Florida) is Bermuda: a thriving little island known for its lively culture and unique pink sand beaches.

If you’ve always wanted to visit and are in the mood for a fun day trip, it’s Bermuda’s West End you want to head to.

How to Spend Your Day in Bermuda’s West End

Bermuda is a fantastic vacation destination as a whole, but if you only have a day to spare, you can’t go wrong with the West End, and a cruise is the perfect way to get there.

Once you arrive, here’s how you should spend your time.

Spend the Morning Exploring the Royal Naval Dockyard

The Royal Naval Dockyard is a popular spot and has everything you could want to fill your morning.

Start with a pastry and coffee at the Dockyard Cafe before heading to the National Museum of Bermuda. Walk around the historic fort, see shipwreck artefacts, and take in the views from the Commissioner’s House.

Next, it’s time for some shopping, and the Dockyard is one of the best places to do it. The Clocktower Shopping Mall is a must-visit, as is the Bermuda Craft Market, where you can find beautiful local treasures.

From there, take a short walk to Glass Beach, which is covered in colourful sea glass. And if you’re feeling up to it, you can book a dolphin interaction experience.

Enjoy an Afternoon at the Water

Somerset Village is one of the best places to spend your afternoon – it’s the perfect mix of cuisine and water activities.

Daniel’s Head Beach Park is ideal for snorkelling, so don’t forget to pack your swimsuit. However, if you want something a little quieter, there’s Hog Bay Beach or Somerset Long Bay. You also don’t want to miss the cute Somerset Bridge, which is the world’s smallest drawbridge.

There are so many fun spots to stop for lunch too, but the Frog & Onion Pub (near the museum) comes highly recommended. It has a great local atmosphere and is located in an old fort with old English character.

End the Day with a Good Meal

If you’re a fan of sunsets, there’s no better place to watch one than with a cocktail in hand at Cambridge Beaches. This luxury resort is right on the water, should you ever want to come back for an overnight stay.

Once you’re ready for dinner, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Bella Vista Bar & Grill, Pastel Bermuda, and Anchor Restaurant Bar and Lounge are the hot spots you’ll want to secure a booking at.

And if you’re up for an evening stroll, end your day trip at back at Daniel’s Head Park, which is famous for its stargazing and is only a 10-minute drive from the Royal Naval Dockyard where your trip first began.

A Day Trip You Won’t Forget

If spending the day on a bustling island is your idea of a good day out, Bermuda’s West End should definitely be on your list. Whether you want to dine, snorkel, shop or enjoy the local sites, it doesn’t get better than this.
